Teaching Philosophy

We are all born with an innate love of music! Students taking music lessons have acknowledged that innate love of music, and have taken the step to further understand and appreciate the art of making music, whether it is self-motivated, or encouraged by a parent or guardian. Either way the journey has begun! My role as a music instructor is to be the students’ guide along that journey.

My goal as an instructor is to foster that in-born love of music, realize any natural musical abilities, develop musical skills, and give students the ability to continue their music education and appreciation for this art form long after lessons have discontinued. In that respect, lessons consist of theory, technique, musicianship, and a wide range of repertoire for a well-rounded education. Whether students strive to make music a career choice or not, I believe they deserve the best I have to offer them as an educated music instructor. The side benefits of music study include building self-confidence, discipline, a sense of self-worth and dedication, and an avenue for self-expression, in addition to the well-documented research supporting its effects on spatial, math and science skills. Consequently music study will play an important role in the futures of all young students.

My goal as an educator is to continue my own education! My personal journey leads me to be inspired as a student, teacher and musician. It is an important journey as a student to keep abreast of the new pedagogical ideas and materials available to enhance my teaching abilities in my studio. University degrees, membership in MTNA, OMTA, ECMMA, teaching certifications, performances, and regular attendance at National, State and Local Conferences, and active involvement in music teacher associations fosters that personal growth as an educator, performer and student.
